1,000 m² of space, a 9 × 5-metre LED wall and a former coal barge on the Spree. This month, from Köpenicker Straße!

At SK Studio, the 9 × 5-metre LED wall is permanently installed, with a 10 × 4-metre stage directly below it, complete with show stairs and side access. No need to bring in, set up or dismantle either of them. Add around 1,000 square metres of industrial-style space, room for 1,200 guests in a reception setup and direct access to the Spree.

Also in this issue: why the studio is rarely booked on its own, three setups that work especially well when combined with the other spaces, the details on access and deliveries, and a quick look at what’s happening in the pop-up and experience industry right now.

Enjoy the read!

SK Studio in Numbers

The studio is the industrial extension of Spindler & Klatt: an open hall spanning around 1,000 square metres that can already accommodate almost any event format on its own.

Capacity: 1,200 guests for receptions, 800 in theatre-style seating, 450 for banquet seating, 400 for gala seating and 350 in a parliamentary setup.

When it comes to technology, the main advantage is what you no longer need to rent. Lighting and sound are included as standard. The 9 × 5-metre LED wall is permanently installed, and the 10 × 4-metre stage, complete with show stairs, stands at a height of 80 centimetres. Four movable truss systems can be repositioned to suit the concept, instead of planning the entire rigging setup from scratch every time. Add truss logistics, power throughout the space and ground-level access for deliveries, including trucks.

Can be combined with six other spaces

Spindler & Klatt offers a total of 2,500 square metres across seven areas that can be combined freely.

The Main Hall is right next to the studio and offers around 350 square metres, sand-white gauze curtains, 36 permanently installed screens and its own 5.5 × 3-metre LED wall. The 48-square-metre stage is suitable for acrobatics, LED performances and live bands. Capacity: 500 guests for receptions.

The Empore sits above the shipping containers, offering 90 square metres with a view of the hall. Its modular setup allows for long tables for up to 100 guests, standing tables or theatre-style seating for breakout sessions.

The Club is the opposite of a hall: 165 square metres, a low ceiling, a long bar, Asian sculptures, illuminated walls and air conditioning, with room for up to 250 guests. It works as a VIP area, gaming zone or second dance floor.

The Wood Lounge is the arrival area, spanning 400 square metres. Water features, beach chairs, standing tables, plenty of plants, a sound system and ambient lighting for the evening set the scene. Capacity: 300 guests for receptions.

The Terrace covers 230 square metres and is both covered and heated. Its transparent side walls can be moved, making it just as usable in January as in July. It has its own extensive bar and direct connections to the Main Hall and pontoon.

The Pontoon is a former coal barge: 240 square metres of covered, floating event space for around 120 guests at a reception or 90 at a banquet. It is accessible via two staircases from the terrace and offers views of Oberbaum Bridge, the TV Tower and the East Side Gallery.

What ties the venue together is its material and design: original Asian antiques meet a modern, industrial furniture concept. The shipping containers aren't just decorative elements in the hall; they're part of the architecture. That's why an event here doesn't look like a convention centre, even with 800 people seated in rows.

Three setups that work particularly well

Conference with evening programme. Plenary session in the studio with 800 seats in theatre-style rows, breakout sessions in the Empore and Club, lunch on the terrace, dinner in the Main Hall, evening programme in the Club and a final drink on the pontoon. Five different atmospheres in one day — no shuttle and no second venue.

Product launch. Guests arrive in the Wood Lounge, where 300 people can mingle without feeling cramped. The reveal takes place in the studio on the 9 × 5-metre LED wall. Afterwards, guests can get hands-on in the Main Hall, where 36 screens are already installed for content and branding. Press and VIPs head to the pontoon, with the TV Tower in the background of every photo.

Gala. 450 guests for a banquet or 400 in gala seating in the studio, aperitifs on the heated terrace, show acts on the permanent stage with show stairs, and the after-show party in the Club.

Catering is handled by the in-house kitchen team across all formats — from finger food and BBQ to a full gala dinner.

Getting there, deliveries and setup

The less glamorous details — but the ones experienced planners ask about first.

Buses can pull up directly in front of the entrance and leave the site via a turning loop. Up to 35 exclusive parking spaces are available in the courtyard on request. All areas are accessible at ground level, and vans and trucks can drive right up to the venue doors.

One detail that proves its worth during setup: the studio and Main Hall have separate delivery areas. This means both spaces can be built simultaneously without different crews getting in each other's way. For events using both areas, that can save an entire day.

Public transport: Schlesisches Tor underground station, bus lines 165, 265 and N65, with Ostbahnhof also within reach.

From the industry

To wrap things up, a look beyond our own doors — because it helps explain how we think about the studio.

Pop-ups are no longer one-off events. The US pop-up retail market is estimated at $14.6 billion in 2026, up 28% from the previous year. European analyses now describe the format as one of the most effective ways to activate brands and connect retail with entertainment, culture and food. What's particularly noticeable is the frequency: the strongest formats run as series or residencies rather than building everything around a single big moment.

The term to know is “designed dwell time”. Temporary spaces are no longer designed primarily as places to sell products, but around how long people stay and whether they come back. In our experience, people rarely stay longer because of a single room. It's what happens between several spaces that makes the difference — which fits rather well with a venue offering seven different areas.

It's happening in Berlin, too. Pop Up_Berlin as part of the Pop-Kultur Festival, bringing together a label market, talks and concerts. The NEXT GEN Exhibition at PLATTE, curated by Sven Marquardt. And the POP UP CLUB in Charlottenburg, which runs pop-ups as an ongoing series — from K-pop release parties to anime-themed events.

What interests us about all this: recurring formats rarely fail because of the idea. They fail on setup day. If you're reimagining a space several times a year, you can't bring the entire infrastructure with you every time. Permanently installed technology is therefore more than a technical detail on a spec sheet. It's what makes a second edition possible in the first place.
